German authorities reported Thursday that an Air Berlin flight from Namibia had to be delayed because a suitcase with a fuse was found in the luggage hall of the international airport in the country’s capital Windhoek, according to AP.
The bag was discovered by police early Wednesday nearby the luggage for the Air Berlin flight.
The Federal Criminal Police Office of Germany said that a scan displayed batteries connected to a fuse and a clock, according to VOA News.
An investigation was carried out by Windhoek’s authorities, but the spokesperson for Air Berlin, Sabine Teller, said that the bag did not contain any explosives.
The plane finally reached its destination in Munich Thursday morning after all luggage was rechecked.
After one of last month’s mail bombs sent from Greece managed to pass through a Germany airport, the country’s terror threat level was raised. Interior Minister Thomas de Maizière raised it further after the most recent incident.
“Besides the previously known findings, we now have additional, relevant indications of possible danger that security authorities agree justify our current assessment that we are now facing a new situation,” said de Maizière according to AP.
De Maizière also said that an anonymous intelligence tip has warned Germany of a planned attack targeting Germany by the end of this month.
