Yard sales can be an interesting affair, especially when people debate among themselves if they should buy a particular item. For one woman holding a yard sale, she happened to overhear a conversation between a 6-year-old girl and her mother, and it wasn’t your typical dialog.
"The cutest little girl and her mom were at my yard sale today. I happened to be selling a Pink Disney Princess TV,…
The anonymous woman wrote in an article published on Love What Matters that she had a Pink Disney Princess TV for sale, which caught the eye of the “cutest little girl.”
“The little girl very politely ask [sic] her mom if there was anything she could do to earn the money to buy the TV,” the woman recalled. “She did not just ask if she could have it. She asked if she could earn the money herself.”
The woman was surprised to hear the little girl’s words.
When her mom told her they couldn’t afford to have it at the moment, the little girl said, “It’s okay mommy.”
Intrigued by their conversation, the woman watched them “pick out items they needed and count their money to the penny as they did.”
Observing this, she knew something was wrong.
“I could tell this mom and daughter had gone through something and the interactions between them were so genuine, so precious,” she wrote. “I saw the little girl look over at the TV every so often … My heart was mush.”
So, when the mother came to pay for her items, the woman told her she was giving them all to her for free.
“Tears filled her eyes as she thanked me, told me how much it meant to her, and that I had no idea how much I was helping her right now,” the woman recalled.
The mother told her that “they had fled an abusive situation with only what she could fit into a duffle bag for them both,” and managed to save enough money to get a small apartment.
Hearing this, the woman told her to get anything else they needed, and also gave her pillows, blankets, a camping bed, and food.
Needless to say, she also gave the girl the pink TV. She was overjoyed.
“What they probably don’t realize, is that they blessed me far more than I blessed them,” the post concluded.
The account was so touching it brought tears to some who read it, whilst others felt a beautiful sense of gratitude.
With kindness at its best, it’s not hard to understand why this yard sale encounter was so touching. Does this story move you too?
