Woman Drives Car Into Police Station Lobby

LOS ANGELES—Police are trying to determine why a woman crashed through the lobby of a police station with an infant in her car.

It happened around 4:45 a.m. Saturday at the Los Angeles Police Department’s Harbor Division station in San Pedro.

LAPD video shows the woman maneuvering around barriers, crashing through the glass doors and pulling into the lobby. The woman then backs out, nearly knocking over an officer who had to dodge out of the way from her open car door.

The woman and the infant were taken to a hospital as a precaution.

Her name has not been released.

WILMINGTON, North Carolina—Police in Wilmington, North Carolina, said on Friday, Feb. 8, that social media photographs helped identify 22-year-old Courtnay Danielle Lawrence as the suspect in a hit-and-run assault carried out on Wednesday, Feb. 6.

The male pedestrian fled the scene and did not return to provide his information. It is believed that he is familiar with the suspect driver and had “a known dating relationship with Lawrence.”

Police said they identified Lawrence as the suspect “after receiving multiple tips from the public,” and investigators found a photo of Lawrence online standing next to the damaged car. The photo was posted immediately after the incident, police said.

The victim told officers she was walking back from the store with an acquaintance when she heard a horn honking and saw the man with whom she was walking jump out of the way.

The driver of the suspect vehicle, a black sedan, intentionally swerved off the roadway to strike the pedestrians. The suspect struck the victim on her right hip, launching her into the air several feet, before landing on her left side. The victim suffered multiple injuries to her head, shoulder, hips, and knees.

Crime Stoppers of the Lower Cape Fear, in conjunction with the Wilmington Police Department, offered a $5,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of the woman seen on video, purposely striking a pedestrian with her car on Rutledge Drive Wednesday morning, Feb. 6, and then fleeing the scene.
