When a woman in Texas couldn’t get a refund after canceling her wedding, she decided to give her booking away to a couple she’d never met. And her decision proved to be an excellent one at that too!

Kolbie Sanders, of Tyler, was originally supposed to get married on Oct. 20, 2018, but called off the wedding just weeks before her big day. She had spent $3,500 for her wedding venue at Belle Vue Wedding and Event Venue, and asked if she could get a refund.

The company told her she couldn’t get her money back but offered to postpone her booking to a later date, reported Good Morning America. That’s when an altruistic idea came to mind, and she decided to donate the venue to another couple.

“I don’t think it was a decision I had to make, it kind of just came natural,” Sanders told TODAY. “The second I knew it wasn’t going to be my wedding anymore, I had asked the venue people if it could make this somebody else’s wedding.”

However, Sanders only had 24 hours to find another couple who wanted to get married within a week.

So, she posted a message on her Facebook page, asking for couples to send her their story and why they deserved to win the venue.

Sanders soon received hundreds of messages. After reading through the couples’ love stories, she picked Halie Hipsher—who’s now Halie Jones—through drawing lots, which she broadcasted live on Facebook.

Jones had told Sanders that she wanted to move up her wedding date, which was originally planned for the following fall because her grandfather had stage 4 pancreatic cancer. She didn’t know if he’d make it to walk her down the aisle.

Lo and behold, Jones won the venue!

Went today to check out the venue!! It is so beautiful, and thank you so much for helping get a wedding coordinator to…

“I was in shock,” Jones told TODAY of her reaction upon learning that she won. “As soon as my sister called me I was like, ‘All right, this is real, this is my name,’” she said.

Jones’s wedding was amazing, and Sanders got to be there for her big day.

To witness Jones marry the love of her life, Sanders knew she did the right thing.

“It proves that I did the right things with my own marriage and chose the right person,” Sanders told Inside Edition. “It was fate that I drew her name.”
