If you like watching grass grow, then this might just be the hobby for you. Watch how one man created a masterpiece from a dirt backyard, and he loved every minute of it.

Keith Smith, 41, from Birmingham, England, is employed as a groundskeeper for Edgbaston Golf Club, so he knows all about how to keep a lawn lush and green; his job depends on it.

You would think perhaps he would like to come home, put his feet up, and watch a bit of telly, just to relax—but no, he would be found out the back mowing the lawn, often three times a day, especially when the heat of summer threatened to destroy his artistic work.

Mind you, this is no ordinary backyard grass strip, as Smith has just won Allett Mowers Creative Lawn Stripes Competition 2018, which seeks to find the best British lawn.

To achieve his aesthetic effect, much dedication is required, and a lot of love.

“Mowing my lawn is my passion,” Keith told MailOnline. “I like keeping myself to myself, I don’t drink or smoke, and my wife and kids are my world, but this keeps me fit and healthy.”

“My wife and kids don’t go on the lawn because they’re so concerned they’ll trample my creation.”

The design he made was one he found online, and it proved to be a winner.

“This new geometric design was a pattern I found on the internet. I was struggling for a design this year, and came across this one and thought I’d give it a go.”

Allett’s Mowers were impressed with Smith’s effort, and wrote on Facebook:

“Keith lives in a normal housing estate, has faced the battles of this summer’s dry weather and uses two £30 (approx. US$39) mowers off eBay—it just shows that you don’t need a huge mansion and expensive machines to have a beautiful lawn!

“Anyone can achieve what Keith has with a bit of hard work and A LOT of passion!”

Smith has won the coveted title three years running, and he obviously has a green thumb. It’s enough to make the rest of us green with envy!
