Not everyone makes it to their 90s, but when someone does, it’s absolutely an occasion to celebrate! Every year in the 90s is a milestone in and of itself.

The servers at Applebee’s Grill & Bar had lovingly prepared a table for two, complete with a colorful bouquet of flowers, one evening in January 2016.

“So what’s that reserved table all about?” Heather Crank asked a server, she recalls in an experience published on Love What Matters.

“It’s for our regulars,” responds a server, referring to an elderly couple. “They come here for dinner every night.”

"Tonight as we were seated a few booths down from this table I asked the server 'so what's that reserved table all…

But this night was not an average night, for it was the lady’s 91st birthday. The thoughtful crew at Applebee’s, who all signed a Happy Birthday card for the lady, wanted to make it a special night for their very special patrons.

Apparently, they had yet to arrive for dinner because they are “not fond of crowds,” and are likely to arrive after the peak dinner hour, explained a server.

Things, however, didn’t go entirely as expected. The couple didn’t show up per their usual schedule, and it seemed to be that they had gone elsewhere to enjoy dinner for the special occasion.

“A server sadly started to collect all of the silverware, linens and floral arrangement to ready the table for other waiting customers,” Crank observed. “Another family was seated at this very table.”

Several minutes later, the elderly couple entered the building.

The crew had to get everything set up again post-haste. “Quickly they sprung into action!!”

A few servers kept the lovely two at the door whilst another server politely asked the family that had sat down at the table, which had just been decked out, if they wouldn’t mind relocating tables, because this was the elderly couple’s “usual” table, and “explained why the request was special and would mean so much to them.”

The family appreciated what the restaurant staff were doing for the elderly couple and obliged.

So, once again, out came the fresh linen, silverware, card, eloquent bouquet, and candles.

“Several servers assisted the couple to their private table,” Crank wrote. “The wife cried out in surprise!!”

All was especially prepared for the birthday girl!

“As they were seated I hear her husband tell his wife, ‘they did ALL this for you hunny!’”

Hearing this, Crank says—“Yes, my eyes started to well up. Just warms the heart!”

No doubt, the elderly couple must have had an exceptional night out.

Isn’t it a wonderful experience to make someone feel special like that? To feel appreciated is one thing, but to appreciate and recognize others … that’s something all the more special.
