It all started when Texas woman Brook Ochoa held open a door at a restaurant. By the time she was done, she made a new friend and now had a regular date.
Ochoa said she met a woman, Delores, after they ended up at the same restaurant. She held the door open for her.
“She was very thankful and sweet. She then told the waitress, ‘Table for one,’” Ochoa recounted in a Facebook post, which went viral.
“So I waited and hesitated but then I walked over and said, ‘I’m eating by myself too would you like to have lunch together?’ She was ecstatic!” she wrote.
Ochoa said that when they began talking, Delores told her about the loss of her mother and added that her aunt moved into a nursing home.
She continued: “She just kept smiling and saying thank you for listening to me, which made me smile too!”
While she didn‘t elaborate on what they had spoken about, “Her words healed my heart just as much as I healed her lonely one,” Ochoa said.
She said, “By far the best decision I’ve made all year!!!”
According to ABC6, the two decided to have lunch every Thursday. Over the years her post has generated more than 2.2 million “likes” and hundreds of thousands of comments and shares.
Later, Ochoa said that Derloes later passed away soon after she made the viral Facebook post.
“I am delighted that it still touches so many lives in such a positive way. Thank you all for your support and your kind comments!” she remarked.
When she was contacted by Today.com, she wouldn’t elaborate further. “I am not doing any promotions or discussing anything that has any link to me and Delores’ story via her wishes and concerns,” she said.
In the Facebook post, commenters told Ochoa that they appreciated her sharing many after it went viral. The latest one was on June 11.
“Your active kindness was such a good thing God bless you,” wrote one person. “Awwwww so sweet God will bless you and your family. Stay sweet Continue helping people.Have a Nice day. May her R.I.P.,” added another.
Said another person, “This is such a beautiful story! You must have really made Delores’s life towards the end so awesome and not so lonely.”
