Do you remember when as a kid the roads were flooded, and you just couldn’t go to school? What a joy that was!
If you lived in this Vietnamese village, however, you would never miss school because of floods! Village parents have a solution, even if it is unorthodox and perhaps dangerous.
Qua sông bằng túi nilonhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6XzOXHKFrDQPhóng sự thực hiện tại suối Nậm Pồ, bản Sam Lang, xã Nà Hỳ, huyện Nầm Pồ, tỉnh Điện Biên.
Sam Lang village in Dien Bien Province, near Hanoi, in northern Vietnam, was prone to floods in spring, and a group of young children who lived on one side of the Nam Po River seemed destined to miss school, which was on the opposite side. Usually, they would get there over a small bridge, but flooding made that impossible.
So one at a time, the children sit in a big plastic bag, tied at the top, and one villager holds onto the bag and floats the child as he swims across the fast-flowing flooded river.
Preschool teacher Tong Thi Minh, 23, also had to cross the river this way.
“It’s normal!” she said, according to Thanhniennews.”That’s the only way to cross the stream because no bridge can stand floodwater.” Minh had reservations about this method but was willing to give it a go.

“I did not dare open my eyes,” she added. “Only when he said ‘arrived’ did I believe that I was still alive.”
The video, shot by Minh in 2014, soon went viral, and as a result, the Transport Ministry agreed to build a suspension bridge for the locals, so although the mode of transport might not be as exciting, it is sure to be a lot safer.
