PARIS—Christian Souque is a City of Paris administrative employee. On Thursday evening, he came to rediscover the traditional Chinese culture while attending the 2019 program of Shen Yun Performing Arts.
“Everything is dazzling! The costumes, the sceneries … The dancers are extraordinary. This mixture of acrobatics, traditional dances with the modernity of computer-generated background is done very successfully. It blends the modern and tradition, and that’s always interesting,” said Souque.
Watching Shen Yun, Souque, who describes himself as a “retro” and a “classical dance lover,” said he was “in heaven.” He said he admired the choreography and found the orchestra excellent.
New York-based Shen Yun’s mission is to revive 5,000 years of traditional Chinese history and culture. In order to do this, the company has developed unique technologies such as the digital animated backdrop, displaying both the majestic and colorful landscapes of ancient China, while animating and enhancing the rhythm of the story and the dancers.
Souque would have loved to share this “paradise” with his mother in particular: “I was thinking of my mother who is now deceased, unfortunately, and I couldn’t stop thinking of her during the performance, because all her life she dreamed of going to China! She admired all the old civilizations.”
The spiritual dimension of traditional China was present throughout the performance, he added.
“We need spirituality in our world. Everything that comes from ancient civilizations can only be beneficial to our modern world, which always wants to go faster and, faster … while this show puts us in front of things that are magnificent and traditional. And it brings us back to a divine space that is at the origin of the world,” Souque said.
Souque said Shen Yun was a high quality show, and one he intended to come back to with Shen Yun’s next trip to Paris.
