This puppy was on its last chance at life. It had been found in a terrible condition and was slated to be euthanized at the shelter—that’s when a guardian angel stepped in.
Blazina just knew she had to help the dog and sought assistance from Adoption First Animal Rescue to save the dog from the shelter.
Blazina told the rescue organization, “If you pull her, I will foster and vet her.” So they did.
What confronted her was not a pretty picture. The puppy was entirely covered in mange, with almost no hair and running a raging temperature. Blazina began treating Amaani, only to discover there was no response. It was soon discovered Amaani was suffering from distemper, which is usually fatal.
Now that Blazina knew the real cause, new treatment for Amaani was given, which she began to respond to. Her hair started to grow back a bit, but there were concerns about her physical development.
“I discussed her size with the vet and we believe the distemper has stunted her growth. She’s not going to get very much bigger,” Blazina said.
In Blazina’s care, Amaani is now on the road to a full recovery. Throughout this whole time, what has surprised Blazina the most is Amaani’s spirit.
“I’m amazed that her spirit was not shut down, considering everything that she went through,” Blazina said.
“When she came to me, she had a 105-degree fever, so that right there tells you what she fought. She has an amazing spirit, and to be so minimally affected by everything that she’s been through already is just phenomenal,” she added.
The day for Amaani to leave Blazina and go to a forever home is getting close. Until then, she is in doggy bliss at Blazina’s with plenty of friends to play with.
“Saving one dog will not change the world, but surely for that one dog, the world will change forever.” 🐶💕 Can you…
“I have 10 dogs here. She blends well with all of them, but her pal is the 70-pound Dogo Argentino…she gets along with all the other dogs…” Blazina shared.
