The Britain’s Got Talent stage has seen a little of everything by now, and while the audience has grown accustomed to the weird, wonderful acts and numerous surprises that each season brings, sometimes a contestant makes everybody feel nervous.

We’re here with Emma Jones, who is hoping to be one of tonight’s highlights, a cut above the rest… 7:30pm on ITV.

As sweet Emma Jones walks onto the stage, dressed entirely in black and clutching the microphone like her life depends on it, her own nerves are palpable. The audience braces themselves, wondering whether she will be able to go through with her act.

From Cumbria in the northwest of England, Emma is a small-town girl with big dreams. But she can barely summon the courage to chat with the judges before beginning her audition.

Emma’s audition was broadcast on YouTube and watched over 3.8 million times. You’ll soon see (or rather, hear) why.

Infamous judge Simon Cowell, who never holds back, addresses the young woman. “Why have you entered the show?” he asks. Her voice shaking, 23-year-old Emma ventures a reply. “I just want to, just, give it a try… and see if you like my voice,” she says.

“Are you nervous, Emma?” Simon probes gently, but the singer can’t even muster the words to reply. She simply nods.

Simon wishes her good luck and Emma’s backing music begins. The nerve-wracked singer takes several deep breaths, almost misses her cue, and then finds her place within the music. She opens her mouth to sing; the audience never saw it coming.

No need for those nerves, Emma, and it’s a thumbs up from us too. #BGT

Emma’s pitch-perfect, soft, yet powerful rendition of the seminal opera classic “Ave Maria” shunts everybody onto the edges of their seats immediately. It turns out that this nervous young lady has a voice, and it’s amazing!

Emma scans the audience before closing her eyes and losing herself in the song. The audience begins to cheer, and Emma looks up briefly in seeming disbelief. Does the audience really like her?

A truly sparkling performance. Bravo, Emma Jones!! #BGTlive

She realizes that they do, and this gives her the courage to keep on going. Simon, by now throwing his reservations out of the window, smiles throughout Emma’s breathtaking performance. As the last notes die out, Simon, along with fellow judges Alesha Dixon, David Walliams, and Amanda Holden, leap to their feet and give the accomplished young singer a well-deserved standing ovation.

The audience almost beats them to it, standing to cheer their surprise and their support. Emma can barely believe it; she stands grinning, mouth agape, hugging her arms around her chest while her eyes scan the delighted crowd once again.

She’s made it! The judges, and the world, have heard her extraordinary voice, and the verdict is in—Emma is amazing.

“Look how much it means to her!” host Anthony McPartlin comments from the sidelines. “You should be confident, Emma; you have a fantastic voice,” David compliments the singer, as quoted by the Daily Mail. “Very few of us could sing like that,” he continues, “and you should come out and sing like a winner, because that’s what you are.”

Next comes Simon’s game-changing feedback. “I really like you,” he begins, before reconsidering. “Actually, I’m going to change that,” he adds. “I love you!”

A delighted Emma was sent through to the next rounds and eventually made it through to the semi-finals of the season. “I was never expecting that kind of reaction,” the modest singer admitted backstage.
