The recent wildfires in California proved that our firefighters are not only experts at dousing fires but are capable of bringing joy to entire communities, one family at a time.
One area that was severely devastated by the California wildfires was Butte County.
Jennifer Hidalgo Fuller’s family lost everything in the wildfire, including their home.
As the displaced Fuller family made their way to a store to buy supplies, they met some kind firemen who would restore all the hope they’d lost.
Jennifer thanked the firemen for the work they were doing. When one of them asked if her home was destroyed,”Yes,” was her response.
“Well it’s your lucky day,” said one of the firemen, who saw her kids, Jennifer recalled in a Facebook post. “Let’s go to the toy aisle and get what you need.”
Before she could react, the firemen went on to pay for three shopping carts full of items, including toys for her children.
Jennifer revealed that she was simply shocked and in awe of their kindness. She had run out of words to express her gratitude.
"My faith has been restored. These kind souls filled up three shopping carts and paid for our needs – and toys for my…
“Amazing! THANK YOU, FIREFIGHTERS! The kids are so happy and keep saying today is a good day….one of the best days of our lives they say! These firefighters see people at the worst times of their lives, that’s part of their job…they too have hearts,” she wrote.
It wasn’t just the Milpitas Fire Department that made Jennifer and her family so happy that day. Before her encounter with the firefighters, she met a gentleman in Walmart who gave her some cash for whatever her family needed.
In light of what the Fullers had been through, these gestures may seem small, but they’ve indeed made a huge difference in their lives.
Jennifer believes that their lives will hopefully return to normalcy soon, and that there is indeed light at the end of the tunnel.
