There’s plenty of hot debate these days regarding how people should act when the national anthem is being played. Three unsuspecting gentlemen didn’t know that their simple show of respect for the flag had been captured and honored during this sensitive time. They are proud to be Americans!
Standing for the National Anthem at the Old Town Waterville football game today and from behind the stands we hear, '…
Three roofers in Oakland, Maine, were on the job next to Waterville High School when the national anthem was played from a nearby football game. Michelle Cossar, a resident of the area, saw what they did and snapped a photo of them standing on top of the roof.
During an interview with WMTW8, Michelle shared, “Just to know that they respected the flag and being an American and to stop what they were doing and stand.” She mentioned that the scene “tugged at her heartstrings” and was probably the reason why she took the photo. The photo was shared on Facebook and Twitter in order to discover the identity of the three men and show appreciation towards them.
They were tracked down and one of the guys, Dwayne Harrison, said, regarding what people referred to as a patriotic act, “That’s what we thought was right to do and that’s what we did.”
He said he had no idea their patriotic act would turn into such a big deal, but he is happy it did. He hopes the younger generation will pay attention and give it some thought.
