It’s always heartwarming to come across service staff going above and beyond their call of duty for customers. In this story, a kind and caring employee at a Chick-fil-A store in Texas went the extra mile to feed a disabled customer.

On Saturday, Jan. 5, 2019, patron Jessica Gomez was grabbing a bite at the food court in La Palmera Mall, Corpus Christi, Texas, when she stumbled upon an act of kindness that warmed her heart.

Gomez saw a Chick-fil-A employee sitting a few tables away, cutting food for a disabled customer and feeding him.

The employee didn’t have to go out of her way to help the disabled man, but she made the extra effort to reach out to him with loving affection.

“You don’t see that too often; an employee actually staying with a customer feeding them, you know, and keeping them company,” Gomez told KIII News. “It’s not very often that you see that anymore.”

Moved by the employee’s kind gesture, Gomez shared the beautiful picture on her Facebook page.

“While eating at the mall with my family I saw this lovely girl help this man out. I’ve seen this man several times here by himself. This employee sat with him and fed him his food. She went above and beyond,” Gomez wrote.

“The times I’ve been here everyone just leaves him. She cut his food into pieces and went back several times to get him whatever he needed. May God bless this woman,” she added.

The caring Chick-fil-A employee was later identified as Ashley Guzman.

She was far into her six-hour shift that day when a frequent customer, Arturo Ramirez, who is disabled, visited the fast-food chain.

“I came in. It was a normal day at work,” the 19-year-old Guzman said. “It was the end of our lunch rush.”

It’s common for employees at Chick-fil-A to assist Ramirez in getting his food whenever he visits. On that day, Guzman was the one lending a hand.

After the photo did its rounds on social media, Guzman was surprised.

“I didn’t know what to think at first, and I was really nervous because all these people were seeing it,” Guzman said. “And you know, out of everybody, like, like why was it me?”

Without a doubt, Guzman’s boss was in full praise for her.

“It’s called an intentional act of kindness,” Chick-fil-A Operations Director Melissa Tamez said. “It tells us a lot about her. She has a really good heart. She loves to come to work every day.”

And of course, Ramirez’s family was thankful to Guzman for what she had done.

So, why did Guzman go the extra mile to help Ramirez with his meal?

“It makes me feel good that I can have a connection with somebody and make their day a little bit better, or give them some positivity, because you don’t know what people are going through,” said Guzman, who aspires to work with seniors and people in hospice.

Hats off to Guzman for the touching display of kindness!
