Hilarious Dad ‘Trolls’ Son by Donning Fancy Outfits Daily As He Waves Him Off to School

March 12, 2019 Updated: March 18, 2019

Parents usually have their own unique ways to show their kids that they really care and will always be there to show their unconditional support. However, some parents really love to overdo it and this tends to leave their kids feeling awkward.

When Rain Price of American Fork, Utah, was 16, he was left embarrassed when his dad came out of the door and waved him goodbye.

“When he did it the first day I was in shock,” Rain told KSL. “It’s my first day of sophomore year.”

Rain later asked his mom, Rochelle Price, to tell his dad to stop waving goodbye as he boarded the school bus each day. But unfortunately for Rain, his dad decided to take it up a notch and the waving became a daily ritual.

The next day thereafter saw Rain’s dad, Dale Price, don a San Diego Chargers helmet to wave goodbye—it was surely the beginning of a new trend. Neighbors and Rain’s schoolmates in the bus began to take note as Dale became somewhat of a local celebrity.

What was mortifying to the son turned out to be entertaining for his classmates. The kids began looking forward to each day to see what fancy outfit Dale would don.

For the 170 days of his son’s school year, Dale could be seen appearing in the costumes of a mermaid, Santa Claus, Princess Leia, Batgirl, and more. Costumes from neighbors and friends would aid his efforts of appearing in a new outfit every day.

The dad also mentioned that he spent only $5o in the entire year for the costumes.

“No recycling of costumes, that’s the rule,” Dale said. “I managed to adhere to that and for better for worse, we have some interesting costumes.”

Um. Wow. This one had to go on facebook. Day 51.Check out all the waves on the blog: http://waveatthebus.blogspot.com/

Whether interesting or not, Rain’s feelings were apparent as he said, “You don’t want to see your dad dressing up in a wedding dress, waving at you on the bus.”

However, for Rain’s classmates, it was a brilliant way to start the day. “Most of them like it, and we roll down our windows and wave. It’s fun,” Rain said.

“It’s a way of letting him know that we really care about him, but do something a little different,” Dale said. “It’s a father’s way of (saying I love you).”

The dad made sure not to miss even one day, so when he was sick once, he placed a cardboard cut-out of a Lord of the Rings character outside.

However, Rain has no plans for thanking his dad anytime soon. “I’m not going to reward him for this,” he said. “His reward is seeing my embarrassment.”

Rochelle began documenting the whacky photos on a blog called “Wave at the Bus Waving Back,” and her husband became an online sensation as soon as the bus was out.

Dale hopes that these photos will give Rain something to fall back on. “I hope this lives with him for the rest of his life,” the humorous father said.

“He can use it against his kids and tell them, ‘If you think you are embarrassed by me, you should have seen your grandfather.’ That sort of thing.”

Is that Luigi or Mario??

This became a hit, and the news was broadcasted on radio and television.

So, with the success in the first year, Dale went on to continue this hilarious ritual for the next two years of school. But the frequency of waving to the bus came down to once a week.

After all the three years of humor, Rain went to college, and is currently at LDS missionary in Liberia, West Africa.

Dale sure has a great sense of humor for a dad and you can bet that he will make a wonderful grandfather too. When Rain goes down memory lane, he’ll realize how lucky he was to have such a wonderful dad.

Keep yourself clean.
