When this miniature silver dapple horse arrived at an equine rescue sanctuary, he was in bad shape, but a friendly golden retriever made sure he felt welcomed, and the pair quickly developed a bond.
Animal control collected an emaciated miniature horse wandering in South Carolina and gave it to the Carolina Equine Rescue and Assistance (CERA) to see if there was any hope it could make a comeback.
Before the horse arrived, CERA founder Darlene Kindle asked the vet to look at the horse’s eyes and see if he had the “will to live,” according to WBTV.
The vet replied “yes,” and so it came to be that the horse—who became known as Sammy—went to CERA.
When Sammy arrived at the South Carolina shelter, he was fed, bathed, and dewormed.
In the evening, Molly, a 3-year-old golden retriever, visited Sammy’s stall and a heartwarming moment between the two animals nuzzling each other was captured on video by Kindle.
She uploaded the video on Facebook and it went viral, garnering over 500,000 views.
“I have to tell all of you never in a million years did I expect this little video to have so much popularity,” Darlene wrote.
“Molly truly has an exceptional sense of knowing when one of the animals doesn’t feel good or sad,” she shared. “So she very gently introduces herself. This is her job and she is very good at it as you can see.”
Sammy is now thriving in his new environment and is starting to gain weight.
“He thrived to live and I was going to give him all I had to make him happy and healthy again,” Kindle said.
With a good friend like Molly and a kindhearted carer like Kindle, this is one little horse who has gained a new lease on life.
Miss Molly is taking her job quite seriously… 😍
Hey everyone. I have to tell all of you never in a million years did I expect this little video to have so much popularity. I just put it out there with no caption so let me add a little background to this. This is Molly my 3 year old golden retriever who was a gift from my dad. She is my second golden and I just love their personalities. Always happy and Molly is your typical Walmart greater. She loves everyone including all the animals we have on the farm. She especially loves the minis she can reach them much easier. Sammy the mini that she is comforting just came into CERA’s program. He is nothing but skin and bones and scared. Molly truly has an exceptional sense of knowing when one of the animals doesn’t feel good or sad. So she very gently introduces herself. This is her job and she is very good at it as you can see. Please follow Sammy’s progress on our Carolina Equine Rescue & Assistance page. Sammy has a long ride of rehab to go and I will keep everyone informed.
