An Irish Feast From Darina Allen, the ‘Julia Child of Ireland’

Dubbed the “Julia Child of Ireland” by the San Francisco Chronicle and “our First Lady of Food” by the Irish Independent, Darina Allen is a best-selling author, TV presenter, and co-founder of Ballymaloe Cookery School in Shanagarry, County Cork.

Her beloved cooking show and companion cookbook, “Simply Delicious,” launched in 1989; its success prompted nine more series of the show and six more accompanying books.

Thirty years later, the original “Simply Delicious” books have long gone out of print. But inspired by stories of copies turned family heirlooms, and regular requests for new ones, Allen has republished 100 of her best, time-tested recipes in “Simply Delicious: The Classic Collection.”

They’re humble soups, hearty stews, pies, and roasts that exude home-cooked warmth—food that’s meant to nourish.
