‘Absolutely Fabulous,’ Says Film and TV Industry Tech Expert

January 20, 2014

NEW YORK–Entertainment industry technical consultant Michael Virtuoso and his wife Gail attended Shen Yun Performing Arts presentation of Chinese classical dance Sunday afternoon Jan. 19 at the David H. Koch Theater at the Lincoln Center.

Mr. Virtuoso called the performance “an absolutely fabulous show.”

And he knows what he’s talking about. Mr. Virtuoso has worked as a theater, movie, and TV technical consultant, including on many Woody Allen and Nicholas Cage films. He’s consulted for Broadway productions, the Tony Awards, and TV shows including Phil Donahue and Rosie O’Donnell, among others.

“The lighting, the costumes, the choreography, absolutely fabulous,” he said.

Shen Yun takes vignettes from traditional Chinese novels and brings them to life through classical Chinese and ethnic folk dance. The programs tell stories of virtue, heroism, and humor.

Shen Yun’s mission is to revive the cultural values of China’s ancient heritage. While producing a performance showcasing the riches of 5,000 years of Chinese civilization, the performance also makes use of a highly modern feature: a projected animated backdrop.

The projected backdrop sets the stage for each program. In certain programs dancers even interact with the animated projection. Mr. Virtuoso called the animated backdrop “a fantastic element.”

New York-based Shen Yun Performing Arts has four touring companies that perform simultaneously around the world. For more information, visit Shen Yun Performing Arts.
