Soldier Arrested for Spying

A 22-year-old Army soldier was arrested on a military base in Alaska on suspicion of spying, according to reports on Wednesday.

Spc. William Colton Millay, a military police officer from Kentucky, was arrested on Oct. 28 after an investigation by both the FBI and Army counterintelligence specialists, according to Reuters.

“We do expect to prefer charges sometime this week,” spokesperson Lt. Col. Bill Coppernoll told the news agency.

A spokesperson for the FBI, Special Agent Eric Gonzalez, told Reuters his arrest had nothing to do with WikiLeaks. Last year, U.S. Army Pvt. Bradley Manning was charged with downloading tens of thousands of diplomatic cables before giving them to the website.

However, an unnamed military source told NBC that Millay did not have access to classified military information and did not have in his possession any sensitive data. He is accused of selling classified information to an undercover officer.

The official added Millay was unhappy because he had not been deployed to Afghanistan with the rest of his unit.
