TORONTO—Shen Yun Performing Arts gave the Franko family an afternoon of entertainment the whole clan enjoyed.
Adrian Franko, Director of Infrastructure Planning & Budgeting for Ontario’s Ministry of Infrastructure, said he was enthralled by the New York-based company’s presentation of classical Chinese dance and music.
“I loved the show. I was really impressed with the music. The orchestra was amazing,” he said.
Shen Yun’s orchestra is a unique combination, with a philharmonic orchestra playing the foundation while Chinese instruments play the lead melodies.
“The mix of both Eastern and Western together in one place, it was nice, you don’t see that often,” said Mr. Franko.
His wife, Cynthia Franko said she was also deeply impressed by Shen Yun.
“I thought it was fabulous,” she said. “The choreography, the costumes, the precision, it was so beautiful.”
Shen Yun stages large-scale performances of intricately choreographed classical Chinese dance, with some ethnic dances from China’s diverse regions and folk dances as well.
Their two daughters agreed with mom and dad’s review of the show.
“I loved the show, I liked all the pretty costumes,” said elder daughter Stephanie.
“I loved it,” echoed younger daughter Nicole, who couldn’t quite say what she enjoyed so much.
“I dunno, I like all of it,” she said.Shen Yun Performing Arts International Company will continue on to Mississauga for five shows at the Living Arts Centre Jan. 19-22.
