Business Owners Enjoy Lotus Fans of Shen Yun

TORONTO—John Cochrane, owner and president of Cochrane Automotive, and his wife, Leah, attended Shen Yun Performing Arts at Sony Centre on Sunday afternoon and the couple, who has seen many shows in Las Vegas, was highly impressed by the calibre of Shen Yun.

“I’m loving it, I’m loving the show, it’s wonderful,” said Mrs. Cochrane.

“I think it’s very professional and very well-done.”

Mr. Cochrane agreed.

He highlighted a dance called “Lotus Leaves” and praised the dancers’ skill in their use of full-circle fans in green that evoked images of lily pads and a flowering lotus garden in summer.

“They were just so perfectly synchronized,” Mr. Cochrane said.

New York-based Shen Yun tours the world every year with an all-new program of classical Chinese dance, folk and ethnic dance, and original songs and musical scores.

Its mission is to revive the genuine traditional culture of China, staying true to the deep spiritual essence of the ancient heritage which is characterized by belief in virtue and faith in the divine.

Business owners Claus and Anne Zander, who were among the enthusiastic audience at the matinee, gave similar warm praise.

The couple is immersed in nature and the outdoors in terms of both work and interest.

They own and operate Cedar Peaks Farm, a year-round equestrian training facility in Cookstown, Ontario, and Mr. Claus works at his family business, Zander Sod Co. Limited, which for over five decades has been a choice supplier for the province’s top-rated golf courses and construction projects both commercial and residential.

Mrs. Zander, like the Cochranes, also noted that the “green leaves” portrayed by the fans in the lotus leaves dance was the piece that stood out for her.

Mrs. Zander’s mother had introduced the couple to Shen Yun, and the couple was delighted to attend.

“It’s very nice, very nice,” Mr. Zander said.

A special feature of Shen Yun that captivates many theatregoers is its state-of-the-art digital backdrops that provide vivid imagery to enhance the experience and are often animated to integrate with the storytelling, transporting viewers to other worlds.

“It’s very cool how they do that, coming out of the mountains,” Mrs. Zander said, giving as an example a piece in which characters descended from the mountains in the backdrop and emerged as dancers on stage.

“It’s very interesting how they do it, and they time it just right,” Mr. Zander agreed.
