Little Yueyue, the 2-year-old Chinese girl whom 18 people passed by after she was crushed under the wheels of two cars on Oct. 13, died in the early morning of Oct. 21, according to state-run People’s Daily’s website, quoting a Foshan City TV station’s report.

The report said that Yueyue’s parents bid last farewell to their daughter at around 3 a.m. in the hospital.

In a previous press conference early on Oct. 20, the General Hospital of Guangzhou Military Command said Yueyue suffered brain failure and multiple organ failure and that they had sent a notice to Yueyue’s parents that she was dying.

Su Lei, the director of ICU at the hospital said at the press conference that it’s impossible for little Yueyue to recover, and the best scenario they can expect for her is to remain in a vegetative state, however, even the chance for that was remote.

After she was hit by the first car, little Yueyue fell to the ground and hit her head, which left her with severe brain injuries that shut down first the respiratory system, and eventually other bodily organs.
